Hit a few balls at the world-class Gary Player Country Club Golf Course or visit the Pilanesberg National Park. You could be lucky enough to see any of the 7,000 animals ranging from hippo, to cheetah, springbok and giraffe, as well over 300 birds. Feeling a bit hot and tired after trekking around to see the animals? Visit the Valley of the Waves and take a dive down the steep 70 meter Temple of Courage chute. Alternately, wade into the Roaring Lagoon and body surf the 2 meter high waves that come every 90 seconds.

It’s always a good time to go to The Bridge of Time that will rock you – literally! It shakes each and every hour, blasting out smoke and making real to life volcanic sounds. After that, follow the Royal Staircase linking the Valley of Waves to the luxurious 5-star Palace of The Lost City. Freshen up a bit and then go do some gambling at the Jungle Casino which has more than 250 slots. Or, play at the Sun City Hotel Casino with its 330 slot machines, poker, punto banco and American roulette.

The Cabanas, The Cascades, or the Sun City Hotel are ideal for when you want to rest your weary head after all the excitement of the day. No, make that after the excitement of 3 days and 2 nights as this allows you time to really soak up the extravagance these prime spots have to offer.

An Attractive Revamp

It’s been 18 years since Sun City last underwent renovations in 2004. Sun International now wants to take the attraction to ‘greater heights’ with an upgrade of 1.1 billion currently taking place. The first development is worth R295 million. It will be used on expanding the Sun Vacation Club’s, Lefika Villas which offers more affordable Sun City accommodation.

With over 2,000 members, the growing demand for more rooms is the key factor behind the expansion. To meet the demands, 58 three and four bedroomed villas will be added. All this along with a family restaurant, children’s play area, and a pool – set for completion in November 2023. From here, the Lefika Villas will be able to lodge 400 extra guests. 

The next phase starts in January 2024 and will be known as ‘Sun Central’, costing R850 million. This involves the demolition of the staff village to add an additional 200 two and three bedroom units for the Sun Vacation Club. Other modifications that are already taking place are at The Palace of the Lost City. It includes an overall of 320 rooms which is set for completion this month (November, 2022).

Over and above that, the Salon Privé will get updated with an even more sophisticated look to indulge in. This is the elite gambling area for the top level Sun International Loyalty Programme members of the Sun City Hotel. David Muirhead & Associates Design Studio were given the brief to renovate this exclusive area. Described by Muirhead himself: “The design is bold, defined and glamourous, appealing to all the senses.” With the new renovations, you can also get pampered in the new spa being added to the Palace Hotel.
